LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., July 29, 2013 – Princess wands and sports equipment put smiles on the faces of children and families around Central Florida after Walt Disney World Resort recently donated more than $1 million in goods to local non-profit organizations.

From DVDs to books to art supplies, the items are part of a novel program called Mickey’s Attic that gives charitable organizations an opportunity to browse through an online catalogue to select surplus Disney products. After they select the items, the organizations can collect the donated goods with help from Disney VoluntEARS from a local storage location.

Driving up to the ordinary-looking warehouse, Amy Perry thought it felt like Christmas in July. The assistant activity director for Easter Seals Day Break in Winter Park was able to load her car’s trunk with boxes filled with cups and toys to distribute to participants and families.

“We are so thankful for this opportunity,” said Perry. “These donated supplies will help us put smiles on everyone’s faces without impacting funding for client programs.”

Mickey’s Attic is one of the ways that Walt Disney World Resort works with community programs that are focused on building better futures for local children and creating a stronger community. Last year alone, Walt Disney World Resort donated more than $30 million in cash and in-kind support to local nonprofit organizations.
